Offset and Digital Printing
Traditional offset printing delivers the best quality and value for high-volume print runs. Offset printing is ideal for large quantities of brochures, catalogs, flyers, magazines, books and annual reports.
This process involves transferring an inked image from an aluminum plate cylinder to a rubber-blanketed cylinder and then onto the paper. Offset printing requires a great deal of initial preparation and, therefore, has higher set-up charges.
Once set-up is complete, the actual printing is quick and efficient. Depending on the quantity, offset printing can be very cost-effective because the more you print, the lower your cost per piece.
Offset printing offers other advantages as well. You can use a wide variety of papers, custom inks and special finishes to achieve the results you want. When the highest quality is of utmost importance, offset printing is your best choice.
Digital printing is the smart choice for smaller volume print jobs or when quick turnaround is important.
This process uses either inkjet printing, which is ink-based, or laser printing, which is toner-based. No printing plates are used, and the color is deposited directly onto the paper. Because digital printing requires only minimal preparation, set-up costs are much lower.
Digital printing is affordable as long as print quantities remain small. Digital printing also offers the advantages of on-demand printing; you can get the quantity you need when you need it. With quick turnaround times, most small digital print runs can be completed within 24 hours.
Variable Data Printing
Digital printing’s capabilities include variable data printing (VDP), which can be valuable to your marketing efforts. VDP lets you tailor your direct mail pieces to each individual recipient. With VDP, you can personalize your message, add a special offer or change graphics from one print piece to another.
VDP works by taking customized data from a database file and printing it directly onto each piece. Customization is fast and efficient, with no interruption or slowdown of the printing process.
Variable data printing is ideal for personalizing postcards, invitations or letters. In addition to customized messages, VDP can be used for applying coupon codes or tracking codes to aid your marketing efforts.
